Agrocentre's Agronomic Tricks

The Zaddocks' scale can help you identify the growth stage of your cereal crop:

For Wheat Crops

Number of days past the ideal date 14 16 18 20 22
AIncreased Seed rate (%) 3 6 9 12 15

A good seeding rate

  • It all depends on the variety, the objective is to have a wheat density of 400-500 seeds/m2. The seed population can also be adjusted to soil fertility.
  • During the seeding to ensure more precision according to the plants/ m2

    • Adjust the seeding rate versus the weight of 1000 seeds (TWK)

      • Example TWK on the seed sack is 34 g
      • number of plants desired: 450 seeds/ m2
      • What is the seed rate in kg/ha?

        • 1 ha = 10000 m2
        • hence 4 500 000 seeds/ha
        • 34 grams / 1000 seeds
        • rule of 3 = 153 000 grams/ha
        • Answer: 153 kg/ha
